New Jersey Roadtrip 4-21-2001

Chris Mason and Ray Martin

Really old directional sign in Summit. Note that the "22" is glued on -- it used to display "29" (its that old!).

Sign Bridge on the short freeway section of U.S. 22 West. Notice the lack of a black backplate on the U.S. 22 shield. Very un-NJDOT...

U.S. 22 West at the Garden State Parkway. Note the lack of a "toll road" marker that is found on other parkway junctions. These sign bridges were probably put up before the New Jersey Highway Authority took control of the section of the parkway near here. The New Jersey Department of Transportation originally built this portion of the Parkway, and only sold it to the NJHA in 1987.

U.S. 22 West approaching the GSP/NJ-82 interchange. Once again note the lack of a "toll road" marker.

Alternate To U.S. 1&9 shield on U.S. 22 East.
